Travelling to job interviews can be really expensive – but this little-known government benefit could help cover your rail fares if you’re looking for work.
How do I know if I’m eligible?
You may be eligibel for a Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card if you claim:
– Universal Credit for three to nine months (if you’re 18-24 years old) or three to 12 months (if you’re ages 25 or over)
– Job Seekers’ Allowance from 13 weeks to point of Work Programme referral (but you won’t be eligible if you’re participating in the Work Programme)
– Incapacity Benefit or Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support and are actively engaged with an adviser in returning to employment
You might also be eligible for help with rail fares during the first few months of commuting to a new job, which your local Jobcentre Plus will be able to give you more information about.
How much can I save?
A Jobcentre Plus travel discount card can give you half off any selected rail tickets. This may vary at peak times.
